Messi? Ronaldo? No, Kylian Mbappé

Kylian Mbappe has been the name on everyone’s lips. With the world’s greatest footballers, Messi and Ronaldo having been knocked out of the World Cup, Kylian has now taken centre stage.

Aside from his spectacular performances, the 19 year old has a exciting background and history too.

Mbappe was born to a Algerian mother and a Cameroonian father. The youngster was eligible to play for both Cameroon and Algeria before making his debt for France in 2017.

It is no secret that Kylian looks up to Real Madrid’s CR7, Christiano Ronaldo, but media channels already report that the player could be ready to dethrone his role model as football’s head huncho.

Interest in Mbappe started long before the 2018 World Cup. When he was 14 years old, Kylian went for trials at English club, Chelsea FC, at 17 years, he received a home visit from Arsene Wenger, former Arsenal manager, who was desperate to sign him following his performances in the French league.

Although, Mbappe had rejected offers from both Madrid and Arsenal and chose to “play for PSG and defend these colors 100%”. Mbappe admitted that his decision to play for Paris Saint-Germain was because PSG is the team of his city and he is quite happy with his decision.

Not only does Mbappe have golden feet, he also has a golden heart. Recent reports have confirmed that the French striker is willing to donate his match fees (R270k) to charity because he believes that he shouldn’t be paid to represent his country.

While still at a veeery young age, Mbappe has already been dubbed as the second most expensive player, behind Neymar.

This is a great time for football fans who are witnessing the birth of the world’s next greatest player.
