Although Orlando Pirates managed to secure a 2-1 win over Black Leopards, fans and spectators were more immersed in Thamsanqa Gabuza’s activities on the pitch.
The 31 year-old shocked fans when he took off his shirt and stormed off the pitch, some considered it to be a very sad moment to watch as debates on whether Gabuza’s behavior was acceptable flooded social media.
During the game, at the 33rd minute, Gabuza was responsible for a cross that caused an own goal. Gabuza then “celebrated” the goal by taking off his shirt and walking off the pitch. Orlando Pirates coach Milutin Sredojevic was clearly not impressed by Gabuza’s actions giving him a push and questioning his professionalism.
The Buccaneers were forced to play with 10 men on the pitch as Gabuza did not return until the second half of the game, to the bench, where he was again sent off with a second yellow card for leaving the pitch without permission.
Coach Micho Sredojevic shared his thoughts after the game regarding the issue.
